Kitco News -- The sentiment in China will continue to be bearish, with one market expert noting that ‘everything is falling off a cliff,’ in the country. Speaking to Kitco news on Friday, Ken Hoffman, sector head of global metal and mining for Bloomberg Intelligence said that, ‘China is in decrease mode [and] we actually think their copper demand, for the first time in 30 years, will actually decline by 2-4%.’ He explained that as the country shifts from an industrial-based economy to a more information technology-based one, old businesses -- steel, copper, cement -- are going to be hurt. Hoffman also commented on the recent surprise move by the Chinese central bank to devalue its currency, the yuan. ‘One of the biggest points that China has right now is to make the yuan more global,’ he noted, adding that the weakening of the yuan is helping gold. ‘If China is going to devalue its currency, that’s going to be very positive for gold demand in China, the world’s largest gold buyer,’ he explained. Speaking on the recent release of gold reserve holdings by the People’s Bank of China, Hoffman said that, ‘even people in the country don’t believe the numbers that were released.’ ‘There is a way central banks can sort of hide gold [holdings],’ he remarked. However, he noted that gold continues to play a very important role in the country’s currency strategy. China still has a 'strong and sincere interest in gold,’ he added. On Friday, gold prices continued their winning streak, hitting a six-week high. December Comex gold was last up $5.10 at $1,158.30 an ounce.

Could gold, the world's longest running currency be used to create a new order in global currencies? The Chinese central bank is said to be considering backing its yuan with the yellow metal. This move, says Ken Hoffman, Global Head of Metals and Mining Research for Bloomberg Intelligence, would be a "game changer." Why would China consider such a move? Hoffman explains that Chinese policy makers are already trying to establish the yuan as a reserve currency, and backing it with gold would help attract foreign capital inflows. China is expected to receive approval from its central bank for a yuan-denominated gold fix, with a potential for an announcement as early as next week. Hoffman explains that a gold standard would not necessarily create a big constraint to the Chinese central bank, as many believe. “It could be at any price they fix. There’s a lot of things that they can do to make this work,” he says. Hoffman estimates that to create an exchange rate of one ounce of gold for every $64,000, the country would need about 10,000 metric tons of the metal. "That’s nine times the nation’s official holdings and about 6 percent of all the bullion ever mined globally," Hoffman says. Moving to a gold standard may also be a question of power for China. Hoffman says that when the U.S. adopted a gold standard after World War II, it emerged as the main power in the International Monetary Fund. In 1971, the U.S. ended the use of the gold standard and rendered the dollar a fiat currency. If China decides to go into some form of a gold standard, Hoffman says it would make the rest of the world view the metal as a currency again. “If they go for it, we’d be talking about fireworks,” he says. As it recalls millions of cars.
Fresh on the heels of its diesel emissions scandal, Volkswagen no longer leads global auto sales.
Bloomberg reported Monday that Toyota sold 7.49 million cars in 2015 through September, while Volkswagen reported selling 7.43 million.
Volkswagen led global sales for three months ahead of reporting its latest figures. The September results include less than two weeks of sales figures after Volkswagen admitted to installing software dubbed “defeat devices” in some of its cars to cheat diesel emissions figures. The scandal forced the company’s chief executive, Martin Winterkorn, to resign.
“Toyota will be the No. 1 for this year,” auto analyst Koji Endotold Bloomberg. “VW may be facing sales difficulties due to the scandal toward next year in Europe and the U.S., and I don’t see the Chinese market coming back anytime soon.”

The Edge, in Amsterdam, is officially the greenest office building in the world. It's also the testing ground for a radical, highly connected new way of working, where employees have no set workspaces and can dial in their individual climate and lighting preferences via an app. Businessweek's Tom Randall got a first-hand look at the inner workings of this office of the future. News out of China continues to dominate headlines Friday, Kitco News speaks with Ken Hoffman of Bloomberg Intelligence to talk about his latest trip to the country. According to Hoffman, sentiment in China continues to be bearish. “Everything is falling off a cliff...everything right now in China is in decrease mode [and] we actually think their copper demand, for the first time in 30 years, will actually decline by 2-4%,” he tells Daniela Cambone. He explains that as the country shifts from an industrial-based economy to a more IT-based economy, old businesses — such as steel, copper, cement — are going to be hurt. Hoffman also comments on the recent surprise move by the Chinese central bank to devalue its currency, the yuan. “One of the biggest points that China has right now is make the yuan more global,” he notes, adding that the weakening of the yuan is helping gold. “If China is going to devalue its currency, that’s going to be very positive for gold demand in China, the world’s largest gold buyer,” he says. Commenting on the recent release of gold reserve holdings by the People’s Bank of China, Hoffman says that even people in the country don’t believe the numbers that were released. “There is a way central banks can sort of hide gold [holdings],” he says. However, he notes that gold continues to play a very important role in the country’s currency strategy. China still has a 'strong and sincere interest in gold,’ he adds. Kitco News, August 21, 2015.

Michael Rubens Bloomberg (born February 14, 1942) is an American business magnate, politician and philanthropist. He served as the 108th Mayor of New York City, holding office for three consecutive terms beginning with his first election in 2001. With a net worth of $34 billion, he is the eleventh-richest person in the United States and the sixteenth-wealthiest in the world.
He is the founder and 88% owner of Bloomberg L.P., the global financial data and media company notable for its Bloomberg Terminal.
Bloomberg began his career at the securities brokerage Salomon Brothers before forming his company in 1981 and spending the next twenty years as its chairman and CEO. He also served as chairman of the board of trustees at his alma mater Johns Hopkins University from 1996 to 2002. A Democrat before seeking elective office, Bloomberg switched his party registration in 2001 to run for mayor as a Republican. He defeated opponent Mark Green in a close election held just weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Bloomberg won a second term in 2005 and left the Republican Party two years later. He campaigned to weaken the city's term limits law and was elected to his third term in 2009 as an independent candidate on the Republican ballot line.
He was frequently mentioned as a possible candidate for the U.S. presidential elections in 2008 and 2012, and for New York Governor in 2010. He declined to seek either office, instead opting to continue serving as Mayor of New York. On January 1, 2014, Bill de Blasio succeeded Bloomberg as mayor of New York City.
On January 31, 2014, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that he had appointed Mr. Bloomberg as his Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change, assisting him in consultations with mayors and related key stakeholders to raise political will and mobilize action among cities as part of a long-term strategy to advance efforts on climate change.

Bloomberg L.P. is a privately held financial software, data and media company headquartered in New York City. Bloomberg L.P. was founded by Michael Bloomberg in 1981 with the help of Thomas Secunda, Duncan MacMillan, Charles Zegar[6] and a 30% ownership investment by Merrill Lynch.[7] Bloomberg L.P. provides financial software tools such as an analytics and equity trading platform, data services and news to financial companies and organizations through the Bloomberg terminal (via its Bloomberg Professional Service), its core money-generating product.[8] Bloomberg L.P. also includes a wire service (Bloomberg News), a global television network (Bloomberg Television), a radio station (WBBR), websites, subscription-only newsletters and three magazines: Bloomberg Businessweek, Bloomberg Markets and "Bloomberg Pursuit".
In 1981, Salomon Brothers was acquired, and Michael Bloomberg, a general partner, was given a $10 million partnership settlement.[10] Bloomberg, having designed in-house computerized financial systems for Salomon, used his $10 million severance check to start Innovative Market Systems (IMS).[11] Bloomberg developed and built his own computerized system to provide real-time market data, financial calculations and other financial analytics to Wall Street firms. In 1983, Merrill Lynch invested $30 million in IMS to help finance the development of "the Bloomberg" terminal computer system and by 1984, IMS was selling machines to all of Merrill Lynch's clients.

Bloomberg Terminal Our Newest Top 25 Tips And Tricks Nov 2014
The Bloomberg Terminal is a computer system provided by Bloomberg L.P. that enables professionals in finance and other industries to access the Bloomberg Professional service through which users can monitor and analyze real-time financial market data and place trades on the electronic trading platform.[1] The system also provides news, price quotes, and messaging across its proprietary secure network.
Most large financial firms have subscriptions to the Bloomberg Professional service. Many exchanges charge their own additional fees for access to real time price feeds across the terminal. The same applies to various news organizations.
All Bloomberg Terminals are leased in two-year cycles (in the late 90's and early 2000s, three year contracts were an option), with leases originally based on how many displays were connected to each terminal (this predates the move to Windows based hardware). Most Bloomberg setups have between two and six displays. It is available for an annual fee of $20,000 per user ($24,000 per year for the small number of firms that use only one terminal).[2] As of May 2010, there were 315,000 Bloomberg Terminal subscribers worldwide.[3]
